INSTRUCTIONS
on acting in cases of immediate threat to the life or health of students or doctoral students at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń
If, in your judgement, there is an immediate threat to the life or health of persons on University premises (e.g. a person's behaviour indicates that they may endanger their own life or health or the life or health of others) follow the advice below:
- Keep calm.
- Secure the scene (if it’s necessary).
- If there are other people at the scene, ask one of them to stay.
- Take care for your own safety and the safety of those around you. No one should be left alone with a potentially dangerous person.
- Provide first aid if the situation requires it.
- Call for help. Call one of the emergency numbers:
112 – Emergency Communication Centre
999 – Emergency Ambulance Service
997 – Police
998 – Fire Department
Inform the dispatcher of the situation you are in and the condition of the person you are assisting. - Follow the instructions and directions given by the emergency services dispatcher.
- Inform your supervisor, the administration or the building's reception desk of the action taken.
- Wait for the arrival of the emergency services
- It is advisable to accompany the person at risk until the arrival of the emergency services. During this time, if the situation requires it, continue to administer premedical first aid.

- If the emergency services refuse to take the person for whom assistance has been requested, ask for written confirmation of the refusal to take the person.
