Recruitment process – step by step:
- you register in the online admission system: Internetowa Rejestracja Kandydatów – IRK (irk.umk.pl) IRK GUIDE
- you submit the required documents through your personal candidate account;
- you pay the application fee (85 PLN);
- if your documents are approved by the Qualification Commission, you take the online written test in English;
- if you pass the written test (min. 50% of correct answers), you are invited for the oral exam (if you fail the test, your admission process ends at this point);
- your test and oral exam results are summed up;
- if you receive a minimum number of points required, you become admitted.
Required documents:
1. Your upper secondary school leaving certificate/diploma and diploma supplement with grades, which:
- – is validated (legalised) or affixed with an apostille,
- – gives the right to apply to all types of higher education institutions in the country where it was issued and is equivalent to the Polish upper secondary school leaving certificate.
The diploma supplement must include the following subjects: (1) Biology and (2) Chemistry or Physics.
The requirement of legalisation/apostille must be fulfilled no later than 30 September in order to obtain a final admission decision.
2. If not stated in your secondary school leaving certificate, a document confirming your eligibility to apply to higher education institutions in your home country (Eligibility Statement – template)
3. Decision of high school diploma recognition issued by the provincial education superintendent (kurator oświaty) before 30 June 2025 / Individual Recognition Statement issued by NAWA after 30 June 2025 / confirmation of completion of the application registered in the SYRENA system.
Please note that in the case of submitting a confirmation of application in the SYRENA system, the official recognition statement issued by NAWA must be provided by 30 September in order to receive a final admission decision.
4. Proof of English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level (only the documents specified in the REGULATION OF THE MINISTER OF SCIENCE AND HIGHER EDUCATION of 30 July 2025 on the types of documents certifying language proficiency in the language of instruction at study programmes).
5. A valid passport.

Recruitment fee:
There is an application processing fee: PLN 85. Payment instruction will be provided in the online admission system. Payment is necessary in order for the application to be processed.
The written test:
The test is a multiple-choice exam (one correct answer per question) consisting of 50 questions: 30 in biology, 12 in chemistry, and 8 in physics. Each correct answer equals 1 point (maximum 50 points).
A minimum of 25 points is required to proceed to the oral exam stage. Candidates scoring 24 points or less are not eligible for further admission.
The test is conducted online via a dedicated platform. Access will be provided on the day of the test. Please note that proctoring software is used — switching away from the test window may result in automatic disqualification.
Oral exam:
The oral exam assesses knowledge in natural and exact sciences at secondary school level (max. 25 points), motivation to study the selected programme (max. 25 points), and English proficiency (max. 25 points).
The maximum score is 75 points. The oral exam is conducted online.
The result:
Your overall candidate score is calculated using the formula: W = W1/2 + W2
Where: W – total score, W1 – score for the written test, W2 – score for the oral exam.
In order to become admitted, you need to obtain no less than 70 points in total (W ≥ 70).
IMPORTANT
The Individual Recognition Statement should be issued within 60 days from the date a complete application is registered in the SYRENA system. Please remember not to wait until the last moment to submit your application.
The University is not part of the recognition process and is not able to assist applicants. Any questions related to SYRENA system and relevant should be directed to NAWA. Applicants should familiarise themselves with the „User manual” available on NAWA website.
